Federated Jewish Charities of Charleston, Inc. was incorporated in 1943 by Sam Silverstein, Alvin J. Lindenberg, Sol W. Bloom, Samuel D. Lopinsky, J.G. Stierer, Roth Samuel Cooper, Hyman C. Cohen, Harry Polan, Max Frankenberger, Ariel L. Goldberg, Syndey M. Kleeman and Morris Steiger with the following objective:
"To engage in the solicitation and collection of contribution, membership dues, donations and legacies for apportionment, distribution and payment to Jewish Philanthropic, education and other charitable organizations and associations; to promote education and to create and disburse such funds for charitable purposes and for the performance of such acts and judgment of its Board of Directors, tend to promote the interest of the members of the Jewish Faith and of humanity in general"
Much as our founders did in 1943, we work with Jewish Federations of North America (www.jewishfederations.org) to accomplish our goals. In addition to the funds provided to them, we support various activities in our community, including semi-annual Jewish Film Festivals, trips to Israel for our youth, support of West Virginia University Hillel, support of Holocaust programs in our public schools and many other local needs.
Since there is no paid staff for Federated Charities of Charleston, Inc., your contributions go directly to where they are needed most.
